You look at the way the administration carries themselves. You look at their actions. You watch the world and consider the ever present truth of change being the only true constant.
The United States is a very young country. We have had a very strong run of success and taken advantage of that by becoming the most powerful country on our planet. We should take pride in that. Some of us do. One of the reason for our success was that a group of people came together and invested a significant amount of time and energy into a set of documents to lay the legal groundwork of a country. The Legislative Branch created laws, the Supreme Court ruled whether or not those laws were Constitutional and the Executive Branch enforced the law. Sound simple enough? What went wrong.
It seems like everybody except for the Legislative Branch is creating laws today. The Executive Order made popular by Mr. William Clinton and then abused by President GW Bush is changing the face of our Bill of Rights as we live right now. Badly worded documents allow for various parts of the government to "get things done" while the actors worry about later legal retribution. A recently signed Executive Order allows for the detention of individuals and all of their property to be detained by the United States if they "interfere" with any Iraqi development both abroad and within our country. Sadly, interfere is not defined in the document. This allows for an administration to act and then let the case work its way up to the Supreme Court over multiple years while that individual's life has been destroyed. At the point where the Supreme Court does rule there is no true accountability because the person who made the law, The President, will not be held liable because of the many ways the position has learned to dodge the law. The Administration will not suffer other than public opinion polls, but in this case the ends could justify the means.
The Lobbyist groups write just as much legislation for the US Senate as the Senate does for itself. Why would a government official accept the writing of an individual/corporation on a subject that so much can affect that individual/corporation? I do understand that time is limited and budgeting is always tight on Capital Hill, as it should be, but, to hand the keys to our kingdom directly to the private parties whose morals we have not VOTED for is in violation of the contract signed with us, the Public. It is your job to work on the Hill.
I guess, if we were to be truly accountable, we would have to point the finger at the only truly responsible party in this entire arrangement, the Public. Me. You. All of us. We have allowed for this to continue. We have put those who aim for these types of power positions in the country to act in a morally reprehensible and sort sighted manner because of our own laziness. There is so much to be taken from the masses when you pick just a little at a time, that it has become part of the game. And we let it.
Vote. Act. Respond. Write. Speak. Act upon your Bill of Rights. Know your Constitution. Pay attention to the news. Did you know that someone hd recently shown that making money from your personal labors offered to a business wasn't profit and as such wasn't taxable under the Income Tax laws of the United States? This occurred in a court. Whats next?
