Great thought, works on an ideological scale, missing a key function of our hegemonic power, the one rule that has rung true since before we were a country:

Is there not a longer term picture? Can we look beyond our own self? Is a single lifetime that long of a period? We have to take a step beyond ourselves and into he us. I would guess it takes a great man on a certain level to sacrifice themself, when they have so much going for themself, for the greater good.

Their purpose was so grand they happily gave. They received much...but they gave greater.
The United States, with its current position, strength and the magnificent skill set we, as a nation, currently affect the world on a grand scale and with a philosophical twist can probably do even more with greater benefit over the long term.
The fact that fucking with our money is the thing that would set us off shows how short sighted we really are. Call me when someone is fucking with my health. Call me when someone is fucking with my reproductive ability. Call me when someone is fucking with the future of my children. Money is such a simple subject. We mustn't attack because we are on top. We won't always be on top.
My Universe is much grander.
